SPC® Anti-Wear for AS/RS

SPC® anti-wear coatings substantially reduce mechanical surface wear and metal flaking on drive wheels treads, guide rollers and railheads on all types of wheel/rail connected conveying equipment in high bay warehouses. Our products are effective on both the horizontal (x) and vertical (y) rail surfaces.

Especially older AS/RS systems can be overloaded, no longer in alignment, altered by the end-user to run faster or operate beyond the design parameters of the crane manufacturer. Sometimes parts replaced previously were not of the required quality. These causes will increase the wear on metal surfaces and create flaking and pitting. The moving parts and supporting rails wear out faster and must be replaced or resurfaced at high cost and possible unplanned production shut-down.

SPC® surface protective coatings can reduce the surface wear on such wheels and rails by up to 80%. Thereby increasing the operating lives of parts by 3 to 5 times.

Tractions Enhancer vs. Dry Lubricant

Containing an innovative traction enhancer, the block type MSB improves the contact between two surfaces and reduces wear and metal flaking. Used for drive wheels and railheads.

By increasing the traction (up to 0.35µ), wheel slippage and “slip-stop” motions, as well as lateral wheel movement, are substantially reduced. Thereby, creating less resistance and wear between the contact surfaces.

The coating with a sliding effect is generating a very low coefficient of friction between two surfaces by acting as a dry lubricant, the block type TSB reduces the friction (to a constant 0.05µ) and subsequently the wear between the surfaces.

SPC® dry protective coatings bond strongly to metal surfaces and modify the structure by patching and filling the surface and, with a very thin film, create a dry, smooth surface condition. This in turn distributes heavy loads more evenly over the increased surface, reducing damage and wear.

SPC® blocks are self-applying and continually repair the coatings to maintain a constant, optimum coefficient of friction between the contacting surfaces. This reduces stress and mechanical wear on the metal.

SPC® products are supplied in various lengths and widths to coat all metal surfaces from 15 to 60mm wide. For wider surfaces, blocks can be mounted adjacent to each other or custom solutions can be offered. Heavy-duty, spring-loaded applicators are delivered with the blocks. Installation is usually quite simple and low cost.

The shiny metal particles indicate high surface pressure poorly distributed and excessive lateral wheel migration, which is an obvious indicator for mechanical surface wear on wheels, guide rollers and rails.
Increasingly higher crane weights and traversing speeds, combined with starting, accelerating and braking action under varying loads, amplify this situation. Because a crane does not tend to drive in a straight line but migrates laterally somewhat across the top of the rail, the stress on the metal surfaces is increased even further.
